Overview
Surya Top is a viewpoint trek in the Dayara Bugyal area of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. The trek does not stop at the world-famous Dayara meadows but takes one further into the forest trails, grasslands, and a higher ridge in the mountains. Trekkers usually start from Barsu or Raithal, which are two villages leading to the Dayara Bugyal area.
The trail runs through oak and rhododendron forests before opening up into the wide plains of Dayara Bugyal. According to the selected route, the trek goes ahead to the Devkund and Siyari Bugyal where there are vast landscapes and views of the surrounding Himalayas. The Surya Top treks are known for their spectacular morning vistas and panoramas of the mountains including Bandarpoonch, Black Peak and Srikanth.
In comparison to the regular Dayara Bugyal trail, the Surya Top trek features an additional aspect of climbing a mountain peak, as well as a longer section of ridges. The level of difficulty will vary according to the route you choose, the time of year, the weather and the distances covered each day. Despite the fact that this trek is advertised by some agencies as being appropriate for fitness beginners, the long day at altitude may pose challenges.
