Overview
Kalpeshwar temple is a major pilgrim site in the Garhwal Himalayas that falls in the category of the five Panch Kedar temples. This shrine is situated in the valley of Urgam in the district of Chamoli, and it has been built on the basis of Shiva's matted hair, or jata. It differentiates itself from the other Panch Kedar temples because of its small cave-like temple structure and easy location.
The path goes through various villages in the valley of Urgam where visitors can notice terraced agricultural lands, houses, forests, and the river Kalp Ganga. This route is not like a usual multi-day journey in the Himalayan mountains because it is shorter with the availability of road access to nearby villages.
Temple altitude varies between 2,200 metres above sea level and, according to the tourism site, Kalpeshwar Temple is the only one of Panch Kedar shrines that is operational all year round. However, weather can affect road conditions and accessibility to the place.
Kalpeshwar is recommended to those who are attracted by the religious heritage, Garhwali culture, as well as a nice walk instead of a strenuous trek. One may visit the entire Urgam Valley region.
