Overview
The Pangarchulla Peak Trek begins from Joshimath and follows a gradual ascent through oak and rhododendron forests before reaching the open meadows around Gulling and Khullara. During spring, melting snow reveals lush grasslands, while early-season departures often involve trekking through snow-covered trails.
The highlight of the trek is the summit day. From Khullara Camp, the route climbs steep snow slopes, rocky ridges, and boulder fields before reaching Pangarchulla Peak at over 15,000 feet. Depending on the season, microspikes or crampons may be required during the final ascent. From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with uninterrupted views of Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Kamet, Mana, Hathi-Ghoda, Neelkanth, and Dronagiri.
Most leading trekking companies operate Pangarchulla as a 7-day trek, including travel from Rishikesh and a dedicated summit day. The climb is physically demanding due to the steep gradients, altitude, and long summit push. It is best suited for trekkers who have completed at least one moderate Himalayan trek before attempting this expedition.
