Overview
Brahmatal starts from Lohajung, a mountain village in Chamoli district. The trail climbs gradually through oak and rhododendron forests before reaching Bekaltal, a peaceful lake surrounded by dense woodland. As you gain altitude, the forest begins to thin, revealing wide ridgelines that remain one of the biggest highlights of the trek.
Unlike many beginner treks, Brahmatal offers long stretches above the tree line. From these ridges, peaks like Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, and Hathi-Ghoda become constant companions. During winter, fresh snow transforms the forests, frozen lakes, and campsites into a completely different landscape.
The summit day is moderate rather than technical. The final climb to Brahmatal Top rewards trekkers with one of the broadest mountain panoramas available on a beginner-friendly trek. Daily distances remain manageable, making it suitable for first-time Himalayan trekkers who have prepared with regular walking, stair climbing, or cardio training.
