Overview
Built during the early 18th century by the Maratha Empire, Visapur Fort stands beside the more famous Lohagad Fort but offers a larger summit and a slightly more challenging climb. The trek starts from Bhaje Village and follows a well-defined trail through forest sections, rocky paths, and ancient stone steps. During the monsoon, numerous waterfalls flow across the trail, making the climb both scenic and slippery.
The summit is a vast plateau filled with old fort walls, water reservoirs, caves, cannons, and the remains of historic buildings. Unlike many hill forts where the summit is compact, Visapur provides plenty of space to explore. From the fort walls, trekkers can enjoy clear views of Lohagad Fort, Tikona Fort, Tung Fort, Pawna Lake, and the surrounding valleys.
The trail is suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness, although the steep stone staircases and wet rock surfaces require caution during the rainy season. An early morning start offers cooler weather and quieter trails, especially on weekends.
