Overview
Rajmachi Fort sits in the Sahyadri range between Lonavala and Karjat and consists of two fortified peaks—Shrivardhan and Manaranjan. The easiest and most popular approach starts from Lonavala, following a wide trail through forests, streams, and open valleys before reaching Udhewadi, the small village at the base of the forts.
From Udhewadi, separate trails lead to both forts. Shrivardhan requires a steeper climb and rewards trekkers with sweeping views of the Bor Ghat, while Manaranjan offers impressive fortifications, water tanks, and panoramic views of the surrounding hills. During the monsoon, seasonal waterfalls, mist-covered forests, and green valleys transform the entire landscape.
The trek is suitable for beginners because there are no technical climbing sections on the Lonavala route. Many trekkers choose to camp overnight in Udhewadi, allowing time to explore both forts and enjoy sunrise or sunset without rushing. During late May and early June, Rajmachi also becomes one of Maharashtra's best destinations for witnessing fireflies.
