Overview
Tavoor Hills, locally known as Dumchi Gudda, is located near Bhagamandala in Kodagu and offers a peaceful trekking experience away from crowded trails. The trek begins near Tavoor Village and passes through coffee plantations before entering dense evergreen forests filled with native trees, birds, and seasonal streams. As the climb continues, the forest gradually opens into rolling grasslands with uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains.
The final ridge walk is the highlight of the trek. Gentle climbs and exposed grassy slopes lead to the summit at around 4,840 feet, where trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of the Kopatty Range, surrounding valleys, and the forests of Kodagu. The trail is moderately challenging, with a few steep sections but no technical climbing.
The post-monsoon season transforms the hills into vibrant green landscapes, while winter offers cooler weather and excellent visibility. Since the route passes through forest land, trekking with a local guide and obtaining the required permissions is recommended.
