Overview
Nelji Hill is one of the lesser-known trekking destinations in Coorg, offering a peaceful alternative to popular peaks like Tadiandamol and Kumara Parvatha. The trek begins near Nelji Village, passing through coffee estates before entering dense shola forests filled with native trees, birds, and seasonal streams.
As the trail climbs higher, the forest gradually opens into rolling grasslands and exposed ridges. The final ascent is steady rather than steep, making it achievable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. From the summit, trekkers can enjoy wide views of the Brahmagiri Range, Tadiandamol, and the surrounding hills of Kodagu on clear days.
The trek is especially rewarding after the monsoon when the hills remain lush green and the weather is pleasant. Since the route passes through private estates and forested areas, trekking with a local guide or an organized group is recommended. Early morning starts provide cooler temperatures and the best visibility from the summit.
