Overview

Located about 60 km from Bengaluru, Shivagange is one of Karnataka's oldest pilgrimage hills and attracts both trekkers and devotees throughout the year. The hill is considered sacred because it houses several temples, including Gangadhareshwara Temple, Olakala Teertha, and the summit shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The mountain itself is believed to resemble a Shiva Linga with a spring that flows throughout the year.

The trail consists mainly of carved stone steps interspersed with exposed granite sections. Steel railings have been installed at several steep points, making the climb easier, although caution is still required, especially during the monsoon when the rocks become slippery. The final climb to the summit is slightly steeper but rewards trekkers with sweeping views of the surrounding hills and plains.

Most trekking groups complete Shivagange as a one-day sunrise trek from Bengaluru. The trail is short and well-marked, making it suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. The combination of scenic viewpoints, religious significance, and easy accessibility has made Shivagange one of the most visited trekking destinations in Karnataka.
