Overview
Savandurga is one of the largest single rock hills in Asia and sits about 60 km from Bengaluru. The trek starts near a temple road and quickly transitions into a forest patch before opening into continuous granite slabs. There is no complex navigation; the trail is straightforward but physically demanding due to steep rock sections and lack of shade.
The climb is steady rather than technical. You spend most of the trek on exposed rock surfaces, which heat up quickly after sunrise. This makes early morning starts important, especially in summer. The forest section near the base provides some relief but is short.
The summit is broad and open with remnants of fort structures. From the top, you get clear views of Arkavathi reservoir, nearby hill ranges, and agricultural land patterns stretching toward Ramanagara. Wind is usually strong at the top, especially in winter.
Descent is on the same route and requires careful footing on loose gravel and sloping rock. Overall, Savandurga is best for trekkers looking for a quick climb without technical difficulty but with solid elevation gain and open summit views.
