Overview

Found in the Pahalgam area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Nafran Valley is famous for its meadows, forest approaches, and the beautiful scenery of alpine lakes. The route to reach Nafran Valley involves an initial road trip from Srinagar to Aru, after which travelers may proceed to the road head of Mondlan.

The approach starts with the passage of coniferous forests and grazing fields before reaching the grassy meadows in the region of Bhaj Margi and Arram Pathri. The Nafran Valley presents a wider mountain landscape, with surrounding ridges and streams. Several travel routes move on to Harnag Pass and Harnag Lake, while other routes lead to Harbhagwan Lake.

Whereas Tarsar Marsar is considered as one of the most common treks in Kashmir, the Nafran Valley is recommended because it features fewer tourists and beautiful meadows with pastoral sceneries. The landscape varies from dense forest areas at lower altitudes to open meadows and rocks at higher altitudes. The seasonal shepherd villages are also a part of the area.

The trekking area is quite far away from common places and might feature long trekking days with rough terrains and high altitudes. Therefore, it needs to be categorized based on the chosen itinerary instead of having a single category.
