Overview
Doodhpathri is a scenic pasture land in the Pir Panjal range of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located at around 2,730 meters and has surroundings consisting of pine and deodar forest along with rolling grassland and rivers running through the valley. The name Doodhpathri, which means “Milk Valley,” is attributed to the color and frothing of the waters of the Shaliganga river.
Various options are available for those intending to walk around this destination. For visitors preferring shorter walks, there is the opportunity to walk on the main meadow and the forest trails around it. However, the longer hiking trail moves past the main tourist center and into quieter grazing meadows and the mountains. The popular walk includes Marak and Kooterlass, Damamsar Lake, Ashtaar Valley, Mujakhani and Palmaidan.
On the other hand, during their trek, trekkers will experience areas that feature open meadows, streams, forests and mountain lakes. Seasonal grazing by the local shepherding groups is also one of the characteristic features of the region.
The meadow trail is appropriate for a wider variety of visitors based on certain conditions. On the other hand, the longer trail is much more difficult due to higher altitude, camp locations and terrain. The trail plan, camp organization and permission to access it need to be clarified prior to publication and journey.
