Overview

Madmaheshwar Temple is a holy place that is famous as one of the panch kedar temples for Lord Shiva. This temple is located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, India, within a Himalayan valley surrounded by the mountain range of Chaukhamba.

The trekking path that is normally followed starts from the village Ransi, which is accessible by road from the region of Ukhimath. The trekking route includes many villages such as Gaundhar, Bantoli, Khatara and Nanu where the trekking journey goes from the forests and villages to mountainous regions.

The temple complex itself is usually noted as being at around 3,497 meters above sea level. Some accounts of the trails also mention the Budha Madhyamaheshwar viewpoint, which involves further uphill hike with spectacular mountain views. This section of the route is independent of the route to the main temple and must not be added to the main distance without clarification.

There is inconsistency in the published distances due to some sources starting from Uniana, while others start from Ransi, the trailhead point. Overall, the trek may be considered moderate; however, constant ascending, weather, and lack of amenities may create difficulties. Opening season of the temple should be checked before journey.
