Overview
Panwali Kantha is located in the northern Garhwal Himalaya region and is famous for its rolling bugyals or high-altitude meadows. This trek starts with dense forests and grazing lands before opening up into expansive grasslands filled with wild flowers. In April and May, the lower forest areas may be colored with rhododendrons in red and pink.
Approach to the trek is made from Ghuttu. This trek could be further extended along the ridge to Triyuginarayan, which is famous for an old temple in it. From the upper meadows, you can see across some great Garhwal Himalayan ranges that include mountain peaks associated with Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath zones. High altitude flora and fauna can also be found here.
Unlike the crowded trails in the Himalayas, Panwali Kantha provides a peaceful trekking experience amidst grasslands, forests, and isolated mountain settlements. Nevertheless, the weather conditions may change suddenly, and there may be some parts of the ridge that may be covered with snow during winter and early spring. It is advisable to have a professional trek leader.
