Overview
Standing at 5,400 feet, Kalsubai is the highest peak in Maharashtra and is often called the "Everest of Maharashtra." The trek begins from Bari Village and follows a well-marked trail through farmland, grasslands, and rocky slopes. The route gradually becomes steeper, with several iron ladders installed to make climbing the exposed rock sections safer.
One of the main attractions is the small Kalsubai Temple located at the summit, where trekkers and devotees gather throughout the year. From the top, you'll enjoy wide views of the Sahyadri ranges, including Alang, Madan, Kulang, Ratangad, Harishchandragad, and the Bhandardara backwaters. On clear winter mornings, the sunrise from the summit is especially memorable.
Although the trail is suitable for beginners, the ladder sections can feel challenging, especially during weekends when they become crowded. The monsoon transforms the mountain into a lush green landscape, while post-monsoon and winter provide the clearest views. Starting before dawn is recommended to avoid heat and enjoy the summit at sunrise.
