Overview
Harishchandragad is a historic hill fort located inside the Kalsubai-Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. While several routes lead to the fort, the Pachnai trail is the easiest and most popular for beginners, whereas Nalichi Vaat and Khireshwar routes offer a greater challenge for experienced trekkers.
The trail leads through forests and rocky terrain before reaching the vast plateau that houses the ancient Harishchandreshwar Temple, Kedareshwar Cave, and several natural caves used by trekkers for overnight stays. The fort is believed to date back to the 6th century and has seen the rule of multiple dynasties.
The highlight of the trek is Konkan Kada, a towering cliff nearly 1,800 feet high, famous for its curved rock face and sweeping views of the Konkan region. During the monsoon and post-monsoon months, clouds often rise vertically along the cliff, creating a unique visual phenomenon. Many trekkers also climb Taramati Peak, the highest point on the fort, for even wider views of the Sahyadri ranges.
