Overview

Bajre Dara is a fairly peaceful location for trekking located in West Sikkim. The meaning of its name is “thunder ridge,” in reference to the local legends about a former thunderstorm which destroyed the trees on the ridge. The trail goes through a dense forest with bamboo and rhododendrons until it reaches high altitudes offering mountain views.

However, the highlight of the trip is the view of the Kanchenjunga range from the viewpoint, with other mountain peaks like Kabru and Pandim being visible during good weather. Trekking on the extended route provides an opportunity to immerse oneself into the village life of Sikkim and visit the holy Khecheopalri Lake.

Despite its categorization as easy by certain tour operators, the trek can be challenging due to the difficult climb, forested trails and camping grounds. It is therefore advisable to have an experienced local guide with you.
