Overview

Sar Pass begins in Kasol, following forest trails through pine and deodar trees before reaching campsites such as Grahan, Min Thach, and Nagaru. The gradual climb allows trekkers to adjust to the altitude while experiencing changing landscapes, from green valleys to snow-covered slopes.

The highlight of the trek is crossing Sar Pass at nearly 14,000 feet. During spring, the route is often covered with snow, and the descent includes long snow slopes that remain one of the most memorable parts of the journey. As the trail drops toward Biskeri Thach, the snow gradually gives way to meadows and forests.

Although Sar Pass does not require technical climbing, the long summit day demands good endurance and steady pacing. Trekkers are rewarded with views of the Parvati Valley, surrounding Himalayan peaks, and varied terrain packed into a relatively short itinerary.

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Kasol to Grahan

Begin the trek from Kasol and climb gradually through forests and mountain trails to Grahan village. The route passes streams, wooden bridges, and traditional homes before reaching the campsite. Spend the evening exploring the village and acclimatizing.

  2. 2

    Grahan to Min Thach

Leave the village behind and continue through dense pine and oak forests. The trail becomes steeper before opening into the meadows of Min Thach. The campsite offers expansive views of the surrounding valleys and snow-covered peaks.

  3. 3

    Min Thach to Nagaru

Today's climb gains altitude steadily as the vegetation becomes sparse. Depending on the season, snow begins appearing along the trail. Reach Nagaru campsite by afternoon and rest early in preparation for the pass crossing.

  4. 4

Cross Sar Pass and Trek to Biskeri Thach

Start before sunrise for the climb to Sar Pass. Cross snowfields and reach the pass before descending long snow slopes toward Biskeri Thach. The changing landscape from snow to green meadows makes this the most rewarding day of the trek.

  5. 5

Biskeri Thach to Barshaini and Drive to Kasol

Descend through forests and remote villages before reaching Barshaini, where the trek ends. Drive back to Kasol, completing the crossover. Depending on your onward plans, stay overnight or continue your journey from Bhuntar.
