Overview
One of the most popular treks in the region, Pindari Glacier lies in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand state. The trek leads through the valley of Pindar to reach the terminus of the glacier, known as Zero Point. The standard trail starts from places like Song and Loharkhet and passes through Dhakuri, Khati, Dwali, and Phurkiya villages.
The trip features both cultural and natural elements. The mountain views are open at Dhakuri, whereas Khati provides an experience of village life in the Kumaon Himalayas. As we advance on the route, the terrain gets steeper with rivers, steep valley sides, alpine fields, and broader mountain views.
Zero Point features the end point of Pindari Glacier, surrounded by the beautiful mountain views of the place. This glacier is known to be connected with the source of the Pindar River that finally merges into the Alaknanda river system.
This hiking trail is normally referred to as a moderately difficult hike, depending on how the trip is planned and the current condition of the trail. Despite its not being that technically challenging compared to many high altitude hikes, preparation is needed due to the several days spent on foot and weather changes along the way.
