Overview
The Phulara Ridge Trek is an alternative trekking path located in the Garhwal Himalayan range in Uttarakhand. Starting from Sankri, the trek passes through forested slopes, mountain clearings and meadows, and culminates in the ridge that gives this trek its name.
The early parts of the trek lead through forests of oak, pine and rhododendron trees, with camps such as Sikolta providing a gradual transition from the forested area to the mountain. The trek then leads up to Bhoj Gadi, which is an alpine camping site situated in open slopes and commanding extensive views.
The trek is characterized by walking along the Phulara Ridge, with its spectacular views of the vast mountain landscapes. Based on the weather conditions, the trekkers can catch sight of the various mountains and mountain ranges that include Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini and other Garhwal Himalayas. The trek then makes its way down to Pushtara Bugyal.
While a peak trek involves climbing a peak, the trek to Phulara Ridge mostly involves the activity of trekking along the ridge of the mountain and different views from the two valleys on either side. The trek usually takes five to six days depending on the itinerary.
Spring provides lushness and flowers, while autumn is the preferred season due to clear views of the mountains. However, weather can be unpredictable at high altitudes; therefore, preparation and expertise are needed.
