Overview
The Mukta Top Trek is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas of the state of Uttarakhand in the district of Uttarkashi. The trek starts from Kuflon in the valley of the Asi Ganga River and goes through different forest environments until it reaches meadows and mountain clearings.
Initially, the journey passes through the oak, maple and rhododendron forests. Later, one comes across the bamboo forests and gradually moving towards more open lands that makes the trek quite unique compared to other well-known treks in Uttarakhand. Shiladuni and Chaithathar are popular campgrounds while Mukta Tal is an important lake on the way to the top.
The Mukta Top at around 3,608 metres is the main point for viewing the scenery. In clear weather, according to trekking literature, the views open up to Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Gangotri mountain ranges, and others from Garhwal Himalayas.
The usual duration of the itinerary is six days, starting with the transportation from Dehradun, but in some cases can be prolonged. Spring and fall are preferable seasons; there are tours organized even during winter season depending on the snow cover and conditions in the area.
Even if often advertised as an easy trek for beginners, the difficulty level depends on weather, snow cover, trail condition, and daily walking sections.
