Overview

Langtang Kyanjin Gompa Trek offers an enriching trekking experience in the Langtang area of Nepal. Located north of Kathmandu, this trek takes travelers near the border of Tibet. The most popular route starts from Syabrubesi and traverses through the valley of the Langtang Khola river.

The lower sections of this trek take trekkers through forested landscapes comprising bamboo, oak, and rhododendron. Moving higher up, trekkers find themselves on alpine meadows and expansive valleys. Langtang Village and Mundu provide trekkers the chance to learn more about the culture, religion and post-earthquake rehabilitation efforts of the local Tamang people.

Kyanjin Gompa, located at about 3,870 – 3,900 metres, is the main attraction. Tourists can tour the village, visit the monastery and learn how yak cheese is made there. There are many mountains and glaciers around the valley that create some spectacular views, especially on sunny days.

The extra day can be used for either resting, acclimatizing or trekking to Kyanjin Ri. Tserko Ri is a higher viewpoint and is said to be at an altitude of about 4,984 metres. These tours are not part of the valley’s trail and must be done on the basis of conditions and acclimatization.
