Overview

The trek starts from Kattinahole, where the trail enters the forests of Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary. The route climbs gradually through dense vegetation, stream crossings, and muddy paths before opening into rolling grasslands. During the post-monsoon season, the hills remain lush green, while winter brings clearer skies and better long-distance views.

As you gain altitude, the forest gives way to ridgelines leading toward Kodachadri Peak. The summit offers sweeping views of the Western Ghats, and on exceptionally clear days, parts of the Arabian Sea can be seen on the horizon. A short walk from the summit leads to the historic Sarvajna Peetha, a site associated with the philosopher Adi Shankaracharya.

Although the trek is not technically difficult, sections can become slippery after rain. Early starts help avoid afternoon heat and provide a chance to witness sunrise from the summit. Kodachadri is an excellent choice for trekkers looking for a scenic weekend hike with a mix of forests, meadows, and cultural significance.
