Overview

The trek begins from McLeod Ganj and follows the popular Triund trail before continuing into quieter and more rugged terrain. Beyond Triund, the landscape changes rapidly as forests give way to exposed ridges, alpine campsites, and large boulder fields. Camps at Laka Got and Lahesh Cave provide acclimatization before the final climb.

The ascent to Indrahar Pass involves negotiating steep rocky terrain and loose boulders rather than technical climbing. During early summer, snow patches may remain on the route, while post-monsoon conditions usually offer clearer trails and excellent visibility.

From the pass, trekkers can see the contrasting landscapes of the Kangra Valley on one side and the Chamba region on the other. Peaks such as Mun Peak, Rifle Horn, and the surrounding Dhauladhar ridges dominate the skyline. The trek demands good stamina due to long walking hours, high altitude, and uneven terrain, making it best suited to experienced beginners and intermediate trekkers.

Itinerary

  1. 1

    McLeod Ganj to Triund

Begin the trek from McLeod Ganj and follow the well-marked trail through oak, deodar, and rhododendron forests. Pass several resting points before reaching the open ridge at Triund. Camp overnight while enjoying views of the Dhauladhar Range and Kangra Valley.

  2. 2

Triund to Laka Got via Snowline

Leave the busy Triund trail behind and continue through Snowline Café toward Laka Got. The route becomes rockier with fewer trees and broader mountain views. Reach the campsite by afternoon and prepare for higher altitude conditions.

  3. 3

Cross Indrahar Pass and Return to Laka Got

Start before sunrise and climb through boulder fields toward Lahesh Cave before making the final ascent to Indrahar Pass. Spend time enjoying views across both sides of the Dhauladhar Range before descending carefully to Laka Got for the night.

  4. 4

    Laka Got to McLeod Ganj

Retrace the trail through Triund and the forest section back to McLeod Ganj. The descent is long but straightforward. Most trekkers reach the town by afternoon, allowing time for onward travel or an overnight stay.
