Overview

The Baba Budangiri Trek follows the famous ridgeline of the Baba Budangiri Range, one of the highest mountain ranges in Karnataka. Most trekkers begin at Sarpadhari near Mullayanagiri and descend before gradually climbing across grassy ridges toward Baba Budangiri. This route is well known for its continuous mountain views and open landscapes rather than dense forest walking.

One of the highlights is the long ridge walk that links Karnataka's highest peak, Mullayanagiri, with Baba Budangiri. Along the way, trekkers pass steep descents, rolling hills, rocky sections, and viewpoints overlooking the valleys below. On clear days, visibility stretches across much of the Chikkamagaluru highlands.

The trek ends near the historic Datta Peeta shrine, a site associated with both the Sufi saint Baba Budan and Lord Dattatreya. The combination of natural scenery, cultural significance, and moderate difficulty makes this one of the most rewarding one-day treks in the Western Ghats. Although suitable for beginners, the trail includes a few steep sections that require careful footing, especially after rain.
