Overview
Pench is famous for its dry deciduous forests, teak and bamboo forest, grasslands, and abundant wildlife. Pench river flows through the larger landscape of this reserve, which lies in the territories of both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra states. The location is also known for being the backdrop for parts of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
Not as in the case of a normal summit climb, the Pench Tiger Trail involves traversing through the forest area on foot. During this trekking program, participants walk on woodlands and riverine routes with stopovers at Nayegaon Lake and Nalyer Camp before moving to the peak of Jhandi Matta. It may be possible for participants to identify tracks and other markers of animals, but the sighting of tigers and other big animals cannot be guaranteed.
The forest area is the habitat of the animals, so participants have to adhere to their guide and forest official. The tour operator also claims that solo trekking along this route is not possible.
