The Tungnath-Chopta trek is a 4 km journey taking you through lush rhododendron forests and alpine meadows to the world's highest Shiva temple. Located in Uttarakhand, the trail takes roughly 3 to 4 hours to complete, making it an accessible and breathtaking adventure for hikers of all levels.
The Trail ExperienceStarting Point: The journey begins at Chopta (often called the "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand") at 8,556 feet. The base is lined with small dhabas and dense pine and deodar forests.
The Ascent:
The 4 km hike to the Tungnath Temple (11,385 ft) is mostly a steep, well-paved stone trail. While manageable, the high altitude makes steady breathing essential. The Summit: Most trekkers continue past the temple for another 1.5 km to reach the Chandrashila Peak (13,123 ft). This final stretch is more challenging but rewards you with panoramic 360-degree views of Himalayan giants like Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba.
